# PickMyTrade Trading Hours: Entries, Exits & News Filters

PickMyTrade trading hours define when automated orders are permitted, while a separate close setting determines what should happen to existing positions and working orders at a window’s end. News filters add another restriction around detected scheduled events. Set all three deliberately: the allowed window, the account scope, and the intended treatment of exposure.

For TradingView-to-Tradovate automation on pickmytrade.trade, the most important question is not simply “When do I stop trading?” It is “What should remain open, what should be canceled, and how will exits work afterward?” This guide explains the documented controls and a practical way to verify them.

## Key takeaways {#key-takeaways}

- Active Hours uses documented Eastern Time fields.
- Entry restrictions and position closing are separate choices.
- Check account scope and pending orders before enabling close/cancel actions.
- News rules require supported symbols and suitable buffers.
- Verify exit handling, time boundaries and broker outcomes in demo before relying on the schedule.

## Where do you set PickMyTrade trading hours? {#where-do-you-set-pickmytrade-trading-hours}

Open Active Hours from the PickMyTrade sidebar. The [current layout guide](https://docs.pickmytrade.trade/docs/redesigned-pickmytrade-layout-enhancing-your-trading-workflow/) identifies four tabs: Add Active Trading Time, Active Trading Time List, Add News Settings and My News Settings. Use the labels visible in your account rather than navigation screenshots from an older layout.

The [dedicated time-settings guide](https://docs.pickmytrade.trade/docs/trading-time-settings-pickmytrade/) documents multiple time slots, 24-hour ET start and end times, account selection, and a Close Positions/Orders choice. Save your changes and review the resulting row. Check the actual account identifiers, especially when several demo, evaluation or funded accounts are connected.

Before changing a live schedule, write the intended outcome in plain language. For example: “Allow new entries during this window, retain existing exposure afterward, and keep broker protection active.” A second plan might require the account to be flat with no working entries. These are different configurations and require different tests.

## How do you configure a trading window? {#how-do-you-configure-a-trading-window}

Create one simple window first, select its accounts, choose the end-of-window action, and verify the saved configuration before adding more sessions. Using a demo account lets you test the boundary without treating a configuration screenshot as evidence that the full execution route works.

1. Open Active Hours and the tab for adding active trading time.
2. Add a time slot. Enter the intended start and end in the time zone shown by the control.
3. Select the affected accounts. Check whether the choice refers to one account or all connected accounts.
4. Choose the position and order behavior for the window’s end.
5. Save, then inspect the Active Trading Time List for the correct row, account scope and current status.
6. Test an event inside the window and a controlled event outside it. Record both the Alert Log result and the broker outcome.

For an illustrative session of 09:30–15:45 ET, record those times with the ET label in your notes. This is a configuration example, not a recommended trading session or a broker’s required flattening time. Your instrument, broker or prop firm may impose different deadlines.

Multiple windows need an additional review. The documentation describes conflict warnings, but does not fully define every overnight, adjacent-window or account-overlap edge case. Confirm support for your intended arrangement and test the gap between sessions. Do not assume a window spanning midnight can be entered exactly like a same-day window.

## What happens when the trading window ends? {#what-happens-when-the-trading-window-ends}

The close selection determines whether you intend to keep exposure or request its removal. The dedicated guide describes No Close, a selected-account close, and Close All; it also documents cancellation of open limit and stop orders when enabled. Confirm the selected mode and account scope in the saved configuration.

With No Close, a position can remain open after the permitted trading window. That requires an exit plan outside the entry period. With a close-and-cancel choice, inspect both broker positions and orders afterward: closing exposure and canceling an unfilled order are separate operations.

A partial fill makes this distinction visible. Imagine an entry for two contracts where one fills before the cutoff. At that moment, there may be one contract of exposure and one working remainder. Your end-of-session plan must account for both, along with protective orders linked to the filled quantity.

A configured close action can still face broker rejection, market closure or connectivity problems. Confirm the final position and cancellation states. If a deadline matters, schedule your intended action with a suitable margin before that deadline, based on your own tested process and the applicable rules.

| Documented choice | Intended behavior described in the guide | Verify before relying on it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| No Close | Retain open positions after the window; restrict new orders. | Required exit webhooks and continued broker protection. |
| Selected-account close | Close positions in the selected account. | Exact account and order scope, including manual trades and other strategies. |
| Close All | Close positions across the documented connected-account scope. | Which accounts are included and whether working orders are canceled. |
| News close/cancel: Yes | Request position closing and cancellation of pending limit/stop orders. | Affected symbols/accounts and treatment of protective orders. |
| News close/cancel: No | Leave existing trades untouched while restricting new activity. | Handling of later exits or modifications and existing working entries. |

## Can exit alerts still work outside active hours? {#can-exit-alerts-still-work-outside-active-hours}

Do not assume that every exit webhook is exempt from a time restriction. The documentation broadly describes blocking new orders or alerts outside active hours, but does not fully specify treatment of every close, partial-close, reverse or stop-update message. Confirm the behavior of the exact alert route you use.

A broker-held stop or target differs from a later webhook that asks PickMyTrade to close a position. An already accepted protective order can operate under broker rules, while a new webhook must pass through the automation route. Check where your protection actually lives and whether it remains accepted after the cutoff.

If you plan to hold a position after the window ends, test a close signal, a partial reduction and any protection updates your strategy requires. Record what happens rather than inferring it from an ordinary entry test. Avoid removing existing protection to create a test case.

## How do news filters work? {#how-do-news-filters-work}

News settings define a pause around detected scheduled events and a choice about existing exposure. The [layout guide](https://docs.pickmytrade.trade/docs/redesigned-pickmytrade-layout-enhancing-your-trading-workflow/) describes the before-event and after-event buffers, position handling and a helper for checking supported news symbols. Verify the instrument you actually trade.

The dedicated guide names Stop Trading Before in Minute, Start Trading After in Minute, and Closed Position and Open Order. It describes Yes as closing positions and canceling pending limit or stop orders, while No leaves existing trades untouched. Review the saved rule in My News Settings.

The [general FAQ](https://docs.pickmytrade.trade/docs/faqs/) describes news filtering as leaving positions open, while the dedicated setup guide includes a close/cancel choice. These accounts are not fully consistent. Use the visible controls to identify your intended configuration, then ask support to confirm the current behavior and verify it in demo.

For arithmetic only, an 08:30 ET event minus a 15-minute pre-buffer is 08:15 ET. Adding a 30-minute post-buffer to that same timestamp gives 09:00 ET. This is an illustrative calculation, not a verified PickMyTrade resume schedule. Confirm what event timestamp anchors the after-buffer and check the actual restriction status.

News resumption also does not establish permission to trade by itself. An Active Hours restriction, manual pause, risk limit or broker closure may still apply. Verify which control caused a block instead of repeatedly changing unrelated settings.

## Does a news filter satisfy prop firm rules? {#does-a-news-filter-satisfy-prop-firm-rules}

A platform news filter is not a guarantee of compliance with a firm’s policy. Check the firm’s own event list, restricted instruments, prohibited actions, time buffers and whether its rules apply to holding positions, placing orders, entering trades or exiting them.

A detected scheduled event is also different from unscheduled news. A filter cannot be assumed to cover every surprise announcement or volatile period. Maintain a way to review exposure and intervene when your plan requires it.

For each relevant event, record the intended account, symbol, restriction interval and treatment of existing orders. Test the actual behavior and compare it with the applicable rule. A screenshot showing “news enabled” does not establish that the right symbol, accounts or close action were included.

## Which time zone should you use? {#which-time-zone-should-you-use}

Use the time zone displayed by the PickMyTrade control; the documented Active Hours fields use Eastern Time. Keep that separate from the TradingView chart display, the exchange’s session clock and the time zone shown in broker records.

Eastern Time changes its UTC relationship during daylight saving time. [NIST lists](https://www.nist.gov/pml/time-and-frequency-division/local-time-faqs) Eastern Standard Time as UTC−5 and Eastern Daylight Time as UTC−4. Therefore, 09:30 ET corresponds to 14:30 UTC under standard time and 13:30 UTC under daylight time.

| Eastern Time designation | UTC offset | 09:30 ET expressed in UTC |
| --- | --- | --- |
| EST: standard time | UTC−5 | 14:30 UTC |
| EDT: daylight time | UTC−4 | 13:30 UTC |

Time-zone conversion based on the linked NIST definitions; this table does not verify PickMyTrade’s DST implementation.
*Time-zone conversion based on the linked NIST definitions; this table does not verify PickMyTrade’s DST implementation.*

The ET label does not alone establish how every platform component handles daylight-saving transitions. Verify the saved window’s real-world behavior around a clock change, especially if your local country changes clocks on different dates or does not change them.

TradingView’s chart time zone is another independent setting. Its [time documentation](https://www.tradingview.com/pine-script-docs/concepts/time/) distinguishes chart and exchange time zones, and its [session documentation](https://www.tradingview.com/pine-script-docs/concepts/sessions/) says session functions use the exchange time zone by default unless another time zone is specified. Changing the chart clock does not automatically align a Pine session filter with PickMyTrade.

## Do trading hours change order expiry? {#do-trading-hours-change-order-expiry}

Application schedules and broker time in force are separate controls. A trading window determines when automation is allowed; DAY, GTC or another duration determines how long an order may remain eligible under broker rules. Neither one should be inferred from whether your browser is open.

If you retain a position beyond a session boundary, check that its stop and target remain active for the period you require. If you intend to remove pending entries, verify their cancellation rather than waiting for a duration setting to do it.

PickMyTrade’s [limit-order guide](https://docs.pickmytrade.trade/docs/automating-tradingview-strategies-with-limit-orders/) carries a Tradovate GTD expiry warning. Confirm its current status and inspect working orders directly. Order expiry, alert expiration and Active Hours are different controls.

## Why was an order blocked inside my chosen hours? {#why-was-an-order-blocked-inside-my-chosen-hours}

Start with the exact Alert Log result and broker status. A saved window does not override another restriction or make a closed market tradable. Several controls can affect the same event.

- Confirm the correct account was included and the window was saved.
- Convert the event time to the control’s displayed time zone.
- Review applicable news settings and the supported-symbol helper.
- Check manual pause and account risk controls.
- Verify the broker connection, account permissions and instrument session.
- Inspect the original error before retrying; an uncertain response does not prove no order was created.

Use [PickMyTrade’s monitoring guide](https://docs.pickmytrade.trade/docs/monitoring-and-managing-trades/) and [alert error reference](https://docs.pickmytrade.trade/docs/pickmytrade-alert-errors/) to follow the event. For support, provide the account identifier, symbol, alert time and time zone, saved rule, exact error and broker order ID if available. Remove credentials from messages and screenshots.

## Which behaviors need confirmation for your route? {#which-behaviors-need-confirmation-for-your-route}

Use this list when asking support about your exact account and connector. Record the confirmed rule beside the demo result. The reviewed documentation does not fully establish these edge cases; this guide does not present them as supported features.

- **Message handling:** whether close, partial-close, reversal and SL/TP update webhooks pass outside active hours or during news pauses.
- **Scope:** whether closing/cancellation includes manual trades, other strategies, protective children and partially filled remainders in selected accounts.
- **Boundaries:** whether exact start/end timestamps are included, and how adjacent or overnight windows work.
- **Time calculation:** DST handling and the timestamp used to calculate news resumption.
- **Reopening:** whether restricted signals are discarded, retained or require a fresh alert after trading resumes.

## A demo checklist before relying on the schedule {#a-demo-checklist-before-relying-on-the-schedule}

Test the intended outcomes, not only whether a rule can be saved. The following checks are a suggested verification plan; they are not claimed firsthand test results.

- A permitted entry inside the window reaches the intended account.
- An event outside the window produces the expected restriction.
- An open position and an unfilled entry receive the intended end-of-window treatment.
- Required exits and protection updates behave as confirmed outside entry hours.
- A supported news event triggers the selected pause and position/order action.
- Resumption still respects other restrictions and does not unexpectedly replay old signals.
- Time-zone conversion and daylight-saving behavior match the intended real-world times.

## Frequently asked questions {#frequently-asked-questions}

**Does No Close mean exit webhooks are allowed after the window?**

No Close describes retaining positions. It does not by itself confirm that every later exit or modification webhook bypasses a trading restriction. Confirm and test the specific messages your strategy needs.

**Will news filters always close my position?**

The dedicated setup guide describes a selectable close/cancel action. Check the saved rule and verify its effect; do not assume that enabling a news filter alone selects closing.

**Can I use several PickMyTrade trading hours windows?**

The documentation supports multiple time slots. Review account scope and conflict warnings, and confirm overnight or boundary behavior for your intended configuration.

**Does changing my TradingView chart time zone change Active Hours?**

Do not assume so. PickMyTrade’s documented controls use ET, while TradingView chart display and script session calculations have their own time-zone handling.

**Is a flat position enough to confirm the account is finished trading?**

No. Check working orders too. An unfilled entry can create exposure later, and a partial fill can leave both exposure and a remaining order.

## Make the schedule match the exit plan {#make-the-schedule-match-the-exit-plan}

Write down when new orders are permitted, what should happen to current exposure, and which accounts the rules cover. Then verify those outcomes at the broker, including the first session boundary and relevant news event.

Use the [PickMyTrade trading time settings guide](https://docs.pickmytrade.trade/docs/trading-time-settings-pickmytrade/) alongside a demo test. Confirm unresolved exit handling, news resume timing and daylight-saving behavior before depending on them in a live automation route.
